It this piece perhaps a continuation of the prior story? It seems the same setting, with the brick resting above three Doric columns, the molten gold (also known as a tealight candle) resting in a pool (divot) in the bare stone (artfully carved black resin). But here there is only one dragon, its twin abandoned. Did the other creature go to seek deeper into the temple in search of still greater treasures? Surely, a place to have so great a find lying in the open would have truly miraculous wealth in its vaults. Did it perhaps sense a mind-altering enchantment upon the pool, an ancient clerical trap to ward against thieves and despoilers? For certain, the remaining dragon still seems completely enthralled by the gleaming wealth before it. Or maybe the desire to possess the treasure overcame both dragons, and we look now at the aftermath of their greed-driven duel.
